The the
Great Emperor Karl
lives deep down in the mountain. He is sitting in a pompous hall on
his throne and sleeps. His white beard is growing down to the floor
and around the marble table. So do his followers - princes, noblemen
and knights - all have fallen into a deep magic sleep. |
|
Every
seventh year the emperor wakes up. That is when he sends one of his
dwarves up to the daylight. The dwarf has to check whether the ravens
still flie around the mountain "Geiereck". If
the observer affirms this question, Emperor Karl sighs deeply, rests
his head back into his hands and closes his eyes to a new long slumber.

What
happens if the black birds don't circle the "Untersberg" mountain
any more? Then, the Emperor's hour has come: he will call his abiders
and will go with them to the pear tree on the "Walserfeld" to sit
court over the Good and the Bad. Another sign will be that the sovereign's
beard will have grown three times around the marble table. |
